The Autism Unit offers a number of subjects accross Life Skills and Distance Education. Some of our students go out to mainstream classrooms for some subjects such as Science and Maths and electives when chosen such as Visual Art, Hospitality and Timber. These students are supported in class by the SLSO (student learning support officer) and the mainstream class teacher as well as their home room teacher.
The unit also runs their own Visual Art, Hospitality and Timber lessons with Life Skills outcomes where they are taught by the mainstream teacher with the support of all our homeroom teachers.
All subjects are offered in the home room setting however some units are completed at different times for each class depending on individual learning outcomes for each student.
Our main Life Skills subjects are:
- Food Technology
- Visual Art
- Work Education/Community Education
Many other courses are available in senior years for example TVet Construction, Hospitality and Metal Work and many others through the mainstream and Distance Education programs.
